Roto-Rooter apprentice plumbers/service technicians use their skills to provide solutions to residential and commercial sewer & drain problems and make basic plumbing repairs (where permitted).* Roto-Rooter provides several weeks of paid training to introduce new hires to company procedures and our specialized drain cleaning equipment to prepare them to work on their own.

What is a plumbing apprentice/service technician?
A trained professional who works in the plumbing trade. Service technicians at Roto-Rooter clean all types of drains and sewers using special electromechanical equipment. They are trained to complete an array of plumbing repairs and installations (where permitted) but are not required to have a state-issued license.
How does a plumbing apprenticeship work?
The process varies by state, but plumber’s apprentices train under a Master Plumber to accumulate the necessary hours and experience to become a licensed journeyman plumber.
How much does an apprentice plumber/service technician earn?
First year service technicians can expect to earn between $55k-$65k, depending on their location. They earn more money each year as they gain experience and are capable of completing more types of jobs.
How are apprentices/service technicians trained?
Roto-Rooter trains its service technicians at company-operated plumbing schools or in partnership with a local plumbing trade school. Initial training lasts 11-13 weeks and is paid for by the company. Ongoing training is also part of the job and that too is paid for by Roto-Rooter.
Can service technicians become licensed plumbers?
