Just about 24 hours ago it was a life-and-death situation. But thanks to the guys at Roto-Rooter, the kitten is alive and well. *meow* Meet Rooter, appropriately named after the company her two rescuers work for. On Thursday Mark Allan, no association with WDTN, and Shannon Dorner were sent to this Grand Street home in Springfield on an animal trapped complaint. Neighbors say they could hear the kitten's cries but couldn't get to her and were helpless. The Roto-Rooter guys immediately got to work using a fiber-optic sewer inspection camera to find the kitten trapped in an old well shaft about 7 feet underground without any food or water. And after a couple hours and several failed attempts, Shannon and Mark used food to lure the kitten into a basket. You can see Rooter sniff around before jumping in and quickly being pulled to safety. "It was this big around, a little dinky thing, and it had been there for 5 days. We thought it was gonna doe down there and we didn't want that." "It's one that kind of breaks up the monotony of the same thing every day and it's just really rewarding to be able to actually save something, you know, an animal and help out a customer." Now tonight Rooter is recovering and doing well. Roto-Rooter performed the rescue free of charge. Reporting live, Megan O'Rourke, 2 News on your side.
