By the end of a Texas summer you can put a tape measure into the cracks that open across a yard here. That is not a curiosity, it is the single most important thing to understand about drainage in Dallas. It is the clearest local signal there is that the ground is doing the delivering, and it is also a reminder that the same fissures can carry water toward a slab.

On stable soil a buried discharge line is fit-and-forget. On the expansive clay under Dallas it is a component with a service life. Every seasonal cycle works at the joints, and the failure is quiet: no noise, no alarm, just water arriving in the yard part way along the run instead of at the end of it. Because the pump still sounds healthy, this gets misdiagnosed as a capacity problem and people buy a larger motor that pushes more water out of the same break.
Where the line ends matters just as much. Then, and this is the part that matters most here, walk the whole discharge run while it is pumping and look for damp ground or water surfacing anywhere before the outlet.
Do it at the end of a dry spell, before the first Texas storms. What the test cannot tell you is whether the pump keeps pace with a real downpour, whether a buried joint is on the edge of failing, or what happens with no power. Those need somebody looking at the installation as a system.
Soil Movement Is a Foundation Question, Not a Pump One
