5 Signs It's Time for a New Bath Faucet

You and your family probably rely on the bath faucet on a daily basis to get clean, particularly if your bathtub doubles as a shower. These plumbing fixtures usually work flawlessly and reliably and aren't given much thought, until they aren't working properly. Here are a few signs that it's time to schedule a new bath faucet installation.

Constant dripping

Maybe you've gotten used to it by now, but if your bath faucet never stops dripping, even if you've turned off the water, something is wrong. It may not seem like much, but dripping faucets can add up to significantly higher utility bills over time.

Leaking handles

After years of regular use, the bathtub faucet handles may begin to leak at their base, usually where they meet the wall. This is caused by the seal between the outside of the handle valve and the inside of the water supply pipe beginning to degrade. Whether it's a rubber gasket or a tight-fitting steel component, these materials are just as susceptible to wear and tear as any other moving part and will need to be replaced eventually.

Shower problems

Many bathrooms contain a bathtub that also serves as a standing shower. In most cases, the bath faucet is connected to the same water supply connection as the shower head. In these systems, a shower diverter valve is utilized to dispense water from either the lower bath faucet or the shower head. However, if water continues to come out of the bath faucet while the shower diverter valve is engaged, there is a problem that will require a repair.

Rust and grime

Some older bath faucets can succumb to corrosion from a number of common chemicals, or from plain old age. Water itself is known for its corroding power, particularly against iron-based plumbing components. When these parts come in contact with hard water and air over time, they begin to rust. Regular cleaning can prevent excessive mineral build-up, but this may lead to leaks if not treated properly or replaced.

New look

The bathrooms of a home can be some of its biggest selling points, so it makes sense to update your bathroom from time to time. Installing a sleek new bath faucet will complete the design of any modern bathroom.
