Most drainage on most properties in the country works because the ground is tilted. Water leaves without anybody paying for it. Designing for Lift Instead of for Slope

Everything about a pump on flat Houston ground comes back to head: how high the water has to be raised and how far it has to be pushed. Get that wrong and the symptoms look like a faulty unit. Six Things Worth Checking After a Long Rain

  • Standing water at the bottom of the drive hours later: the pump is not keeping up, or it is not running at all.
  • Restarting every few seconds: a check valve that is not sealing, or a pit too shallow for the inflow it is asked to hold.
  • Silt or leaf debris in the pit: the intake screen is the next thing to clog, and it will do it during the storm.
  • A hum with nothing moving: a seized impeller or an obstruction on the intake.
  • Running for a day after the rain: the clay is still draining. Normal to a point, worth a look past it.
  • Silence with the pit filling: breaker first, then the float switch, then call, and stay out of standing water near a powered pump.
