Restoration is everything that happens to the building after the water is already in it: extraction, drying the structure to a verified moisture level, cleaning and sanitizing what the water reached, remediating growth where it has started, and rebuilding the finishes. On slab construction most of that work happens in the first foot above the floor and in the assembly beneath it. Technicians pull baseboard, drill or lift flooring where the readings call for it, and push dry air into the space between the finish and the concrete, because that gap is where a slab-built house stays wet longest.
The measuring is different too. A concrete floor does not give a moisture reading the way framing does, so a technician works from relative humidity in the air being pulled out from under the finish, from surface temperature and from readings taken through the wall base on both the wet side and the dry side of the line. That is how the wet perimeter gets marked, and it is why the marks on the wall after an inspection frequently sit well outside the room that flooded.

- Attic equipment and supply runs: a water heater or a fitting overhead lets go, and the water takes the ceiling, the insulation and a wall cavity with it on the way down.

The Sequence on a Slab Job
The order below holds on almost every job, because each stage produces the information the next one needs.
- Inspection and classification: the technician finds the source, grades the water category and maps the full wet area, including the part that ran under the flooring.
- Extraction: standing water and saturated pad come out first, because nothing beneath them can be measured until they are gone.
- Opening the assembly: baseboard comes off, flooring is lifted or drilled and wet board is cut back, only where the readings say air has to get in.
- Drying the structure and the slab: air movers, dehumidifiers and mat systems run until framing, board and concrete all meet the dry standard set at the start.
- Cleaning and sanitizing: affected surfaces are cleaned, treated where the category requires it, and deodorized so nothing comes back with the next humid week.
- Reconstruction: flooring, board, baseboard and paint go back, and salvaged contents return to the house.
Not All of It Can Be Dried in Place
On a slab the practical question is whether the flooring comes up, and the water category answers it. Clean water from a broken supply line is category one on the IICRC scale, and reached early it is the case where tile and plank most often stay down, with drying done from the edges and from underneath.
Category two is gray water, meaning washing machine discharge, a dishwasher or an overflowing fixture. It carries enough contamination that pad and porous material it soaked are removed, and what remains is cleaned and sanitized before drying is called complete.
Category three is sewage and water that came in off the ground outside. On the high ground north of the city a downpour runs across rock, soil, pavement and drainage before it reaches a threshold, so it is contaminated when it arrives. Porous material below the wet line comes out, the slab and the framing are cleaned and treated, and technicians work in protective equipment for the duration.

Keep the ground falling away from the slab and the gutters discharging well clear of it, since clay settles and quietly reverses a grade that used to work.
