Why do pipes freeze so often in Victoria during winter?

Victoria's cold mountain winters and heavy snowfall can cause temperatures to drop sharply, especially in homes with crawl spaces or pipes running along exterior walls. When water inside pipes freezes, it expands and can crack or burst the pipe entirely. Roto-Rooter's experienced plumbing technicians respond promptly to frozen pipe emergencies and can help assess your home's vulnerability before the next cold season arrives. Call 250-382-4900 any time for urgent pipe repairs.

Does Victoria's hard water cause plumbing problems?

Yes - mineral-rich mountain runoff in the Victoria area contributes to hard water, which leaves scale buildup inside pipes, water heaters, and fixtures over time. This buildup can reduce water flow, shorten the lifespan of your water heater, and make drains more prone to clogging. Roto-Rooter's experienced plumbing technicians can inspect your system and recommend the right solutions to keep your plumbing running efficiently.

How does soil type in Victoria affect underground pipes?

Victoria's glacial till and mountain soil can shift and compact unevenly, especially after heavy snowfall or periods of wet weather. This ground movement puts stress on buried sewer and water lines, leading to cracks, misaligned joints, or root intrusion over time. Roto-Rooter offers pipe restoration and excavation services to diagnose and repair underground pipe damage efficiently. Our experienced plumbing technicians are fully licensed and insured to handle jobs of any size.

We Do Appliance Installations

In addition to providing traditional plumbing services, our Victoria, BC, plumbers also perform a wide range of installations for appliances that connected to the water supply, like a water heater, dishwasher or ice maker. For an appointment, call 250-382-4900.

Tobyn from Roto-Rooter came to my house this week to clear a blocked septic line. After he left I discovered the septic line was still blocked. Tobyn returned the next ... day and worked again to clear the blockage. After an hour we discovered a previously unknown septic tank with a blocked filter located underneath a 350 pound slab of concrete. It was a third septic tank I never knew about. Thank you Tobyn for your dedication and efforts that located the septic problem!

dont usually preach but 2nd time for the Parksville shop - 2 years ago they absolutely saved the day in a second opinion position so I exclaimed my satisfaction - ... again this weekend another minor issue but extremely satisfied with Paul the technician, how the issue was resolved. timing and cost -I have been a vocal talker about Roto since the first time whenever situation is appropriate and find most believe, as I did once, that Roto only clears clogged sewer pipe - will continue to be vocal promoting Roto - thks

Good afternoon, Had a troublesome issue the last few days with two bath tub drains not emtying, in adjoining bathrooms in our small apartment building. Called Roto-Rooter first thing the other morning, ... friendly reception from the gal on the switchboard, explained to her what the problem was, she said that I would hear from a fellow between Noon and 2. Had a call back from Ken C., he said he could come before Noon. Met Ken there, explained what was happening. Within a few minutes , Ken had grasped the problem and proceeded with the solution, all the while being very knowledgeable and pleasant, immediately answering all my stupid questions. After awhile augering the breather opening in the bath tub, he withdrew the line that had ensnared the mother of all hairballs. Yesss. Nice outflow in both tubs immediately. Ken exited after giving me a reasonable bill for his excellent work and advice. Thanks again Ken C. (R/R) for solving a really worrisome issue for me. Regards, Jerry M.
