Customer Reviews in Kennewick
Roto Rooter and John Ball of Kennewick, WA did a great job for us. The toilet and bathtub started backing up at my parents' house in Kennewick, WA while my ... sister and her husband and two children were visiting from out of town. We called Roto Rooter and they arrived at their specified appt. time. Our technician was John Ball. He was very through, professional and explained things very thoroughly He was very knowledgeable. It was so hot outside, near 100 but he kept on going and figured out that when the city was previously working on an issue with the pipes in front of the house in the cul de sac months earlier, they damaged a pipe that connected with ours. The water had been able to drain slowly but enough to get through when it was just my parents were using water, but when four more people were using that's when the issue occurred. He used a camera and found the issue and marked where the damage was located out in the street which was right under the area where the city had done their work. The city actually admitted they had caused the damage thanks to John's photos, explanation and knowledge. We got lucky, John saved my parents thousands and thousands of dollars.
I wanted to say 2 things. First, I am totally impressed by your professionalism. The crew that came to my house (5 days) were very courteous, respectful ... and thorough. They did an amazing job and explained all the issues with my system so that I could understand what needed to be done and the expediency of the work needed. They left my yard in great shape and went above and beyond the estimate I was given. Great group of men and very nice. Second, I was reviewing my estimate to get ready for the accountant and I realized one item of the estimate was to drain the septic tank. I had the septic tank drained the week prior to the estimate being created and the work did not having to have it drained a second time. My question then is was I charged for the second draining that was included in the estimate?? I tell everyone what a great job the team did and how impressed I am with your professionalism. Thank you for the service you provide.
great service! timely, professional. communicated the situation from beginning to end. Call on them call the time.
Michael P.Plumbing problems tend to follow predictable patterns. A slow drain becomes a full backup. A small drip behind a wall saturates insulation and framing before it surfaces. Recognizing the early signs - and knowing which issues compound quickly - helps homeowners act before minor repairs become major ones.
Drain Clogs and Sewer Backups
Kitchen drains accumulate cooking grease that cools and solidifies on the pipe wall, layer by layer, until flow slows to a trickle. Bathroom drains trap hair and soap scum just past the P-trap. When multiple fixtures back up at the same time - a toilet gurgling while the shower drains slowly - the blockage is almost always in the main sewer line, not at any single fixture. Roto-Rooter technicians clear drain lines with mechanical augering for typical clogs and hydro jetting for calcified grease or mineral scale that a cable auger cannot cut through.
Water Heater Failures
Sediment collects on the bottom of tank water heaters over time, causing rumbling or popping sounds and reducing heating efficiency. A failing anode rod allows corrosion to attack the tank wall from the inside. A malfunctioning pressure relief valve creates a safety risk. Roto-Rooter diagnoses tank and tankless units alike - inspecting the thermostat, anode rod, heating element, and relief valve to determine whether repair or replacement is the right call.
Hidden Leaks
A supply line leak behind a wall or under a slab can run for weeks before visible damage appears. Roto-Rooter technicians use moisture meters and systematic visual inspection to trace leak sources at fixture connections, shutoff valves, and pipe joints - stopping damage before it spreads.
Pipe material is one of the most common factors in recurring plumbing problems. Galvanized steel pipes corrode from the inside as they age, gradually restricting water flow and eventually failing at joints. Converting galvanized lines to PEX or copper eliminates the cycle of patching individual leaks as new ones form downstream. Roto-Rooter handles full repipes as well as targeted section replacements when the rest of the system is still sound.
Low Water Pressure
Low pressure throughout the house points to a different cause than low pressure at a single fixture. A failing pressure reducing valve (PRV) can let incoming municipal pressure run too high or drop too low. A partial blockage in a supply line - often from mineral buildup in older galvanized pipe - restricts flow to every outlet downstream. A Roto-Rooter technician traces pressure complaints to the source rather than guessing at the fixture.
Fixture and Appliance Connections
A running toilet typically needs a new flapper or fill valve - small components that waste significant water when they fail. Faucet drips, garbage disposal jams, and loose shutoff valves are common fixture-level repairs that Roto-Rooter handles alongside larger system work. Appliance connections - dishwasher supply lines, ice maker lines, washing machine hoses - are easy to overlook. A failed ice maker line can leak slowly behind a refrigerator for weeks before the damage becomes visible.
Sewer Camera Inspection
For recurring drain backups, a sewer camera inspection identifies the underlying cause. The camera traces the path and condition of the drain line, locating breaks, pipe bellies, root intrusion, or collapsed sections that explain why the same line keeps backing up. Tree roots enter drain lines through hairline cracks at joints and expand as they absorb moisture - a problem that looks like a simple clog until the camera reveals the full picture. Frequently Asked Questions in Kennewick
How can I contact my local Roto-Rooter?
Please visit our locations page to find the nearest Roto-Rooter.
Could a slow-draining kitchen sink be something other than a grease clog?
Grease and food solids are the most common culprits, but a slow kitchen drain can also result from a blocked vent stack that prevents air from flowing through the drain system, or a partial obstruction further down the branch line. Roto-Rooter technicians diagnose the actual cause before clearing it, so the fix addresses the root problem rather than just the symptom.
Is plumbing help available if a pipe bursts late at night or on a holiday?
Roto-Rooter dispatches technicians 24/7, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends, and holidays. A burst pipe does not wait for business hours, and neither does Roto-Rooter. Call 509-237-6993 to reach dispatch for Kennewick, WA - a technician will be sent to locate the break, shut off the water, and complete the repair.
Why does my basement floor drain back up when I run the washing machine?
The basement floor drain sits at the lowest point in the home's drainage system, so it is the first place water surfaces when the main line cannot handle the volume. Running the washing machine sends a large surge of water through the line, exposing a partial blockage that slower-flowing fixtures do not reveal. Roto-Rooter clears the main line obstruction to stop the backup at its source.
Multiple drains in my house are backing up at the same time. What is happening?
When toilets, tubs, and sinks back up simultaneously, the blockage is almost certainly in the main sewer line between the house and the city connection, not in any individual fixture. A Roto-Rooter technician confirms this with a camera inspection, then clears the main line blockage with the Roto-Rooter Machine or hydro jetting to restore drainage to every fixture at once.
Can tree roots really get into my sewer line, and how would I know?
Yes. Roots enter sewer laterals through hairline cracks at pipe joints, then expand as they absorb moisture, eventually causing recurring backups. Signs include slow drains in multiple fixtures and gurgling sounds in the toilet. Roto-Rooter uses a sewer camera to confirm root intrusion and its location, then clears the roots with an auger or hydro jetting depending on severity.
What is hydro jetting, and when is it better than a regular drain snake?
Hydro jetting sends a high-pressure water stream through the pipe to scour the walls clean, removing calcified grease, mineral scale, and root debris that a cable auger cuts through but leaves behind. A cable auger opens a path; hydro jetting restores the pipe's full diameter. Roto-Rooter recommends hydro jetting when the same drain clogs repeatedly or when a camera inspection shows heavy buildup.
My toilet keeps running after I flush. Is that something I can ignore?
A running toilet wastes a significant amount of water every day and should not be ignored. The cause is almost always a worn flapper that no longer seals the flush valve, or a fill valve that fails to shut off at the correct water level. Roto-Rooter technicians diagnose which component has failed and replace it quickly to stop the waste.
What causes low water pressure throughout the whole house?
Whole-house low pressure usually points to a failing pressure reducing valve, a partially closed main shutoff, or a supply-side leak losing volume before it reaches your fixtures. A Roto-Rooter technician tests incoming pressure, inspects the PRV, and traces the supply line to identify where pressure is dropping so the right repair gets made the first time.
When should I replace galvanized steel pipes instead of just patching the leak?
Galvanized steel corrodes from the inside out, gradually narrowing the pipe interior and causing recurring leaks at multiple points. When patches become a regular expense or water runs discolored, a full repipe to copper or PEX is usually the more cost-effective path. Roto-Rooter technicians assess the pipe condition and walk you through the repipe process before any work begins.
My water heater is making a rumbling noise. What does that mean?
Rumbling typically means sediment has settled on the tank floor. As the burner heats water trapped beneath that layer, it pops and rumbles. Over time, sediment reduces heating efficiency and stresses the tank wall. A Roto-Rooter technician flushes the sediment, inspects the anode rod, and checks the pressure relief valve to restore safe, efficient operation.
How do I know if I have a hidden water leak inside my walls?
Hidden leaks often show up as soft drywall, a musty smell, or an unexplained spike in your water bill before any visible water appears. A Roto-Rooter technician uses moisture meters and visual inspection to trace the leak source behind walls and under floors without unnecessary demolition. Finding the leak early limits the damage and the repair scope.
